Norma Darden '61 Commended by CICU

On March 1st, Norma Jean Darden '61 was officially inducted into the Independent Sector Alumnae/i Hall of Distinction by Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities. Their chosen theme in 2010 was to showcase economic development role models. This theme highlighted alumnae/i from independent colleges and universities in New York State who chose to grow businesses in New York, bringing jobs and economic benefits to their communities.

Joan H. Marks '51 To Be Honored

FRIA – The Voice and Resource for Quality Long Term Care - will honor Joan H. Marks '51 at its annual Spring Benefit. Reception and dinner will take place at Manhattan Penthouse on Monday, June 14, 2010. FRIA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering the dignity and independence of seniors in long term care settings, with a special focus on nursing home residents, and to ensuring that they receive prompt, high quality compassionate care. We seek to accomplish this by helping friends and relatives become more informed and effective caregivers for the needs of their loved ones.

Translating Tartuffe

In March, theatregoers at Sarah Lawrence's Suzanne Werner Wright Theatre will see OBIE Award-winning playwright Amlin Gray’s recent translation and new ending to Moliere’s masterpiece, Tartuffe.

Alumnae/i Announcements

Have you recently changed jobs, received a promotion, or won an award in your field? Share your accomplishment with the alumnae/i community.

Oscar-winning filmmaker, Lynne Littman '62 has been elected a Governor of the Motion Picture Academy. Lynne won her Oscar for her documentary, "Number Our Days" and later directed "Testament" for which Jane Alexander '61 won a Best Actress nomination. Her documentary feature credits include "Having Our Say: The Delaney Sisters First 100 Years".

Whitney Benzian '02 was featured in a local online news publication for being one of their "35 under 35". SDNN asked readers, elected officials and nonprofit leaders throughout the region to submit their nominations for 35 leaders under the age of 35. Whitney Benzian serves as the director of special projects for City Council President Ben Hueso in San Diego.

Richard Morais '81 announces the US book launch of his much-acclaimed novel, "The Hundred-Foot Journey". The book will be released by Scribner on July 6, 2010.

Madeline Silber '83 announces she will have five paintings in the 62nd Exhibition of Central New York Artists. The show runs from February to May of this year at 310 Genesee Street, Utica, NY.
