Alumna Gail Eisen '64, former producer for 60 Minutes, sits down with Sara Wilford, professor of psychology and Director of the Art of Teaching Graduate Program to talk about the importance of creative, unstructured play for children in pre-school and early grades. Discussing how play promotes self-confidence in children, Wilford comments emphatically in the brief interview: “…you can't buy that; and you can't teach that; and you can't force that – you can only foster that as a process.”

In America, it's easy to take for granted the availability of testing and medical management for genetic disorders like hereditary cancer, Huntington's disease, or spina bifida. But in underdeveloped countries, genetic testing barely exists. Sarah Lawrence alumni Lindsey Alico MS '11, Gillian Blaber MS '11, and Ny Hoang MS '11 want that to change. For their thesis work at SLC, they founded GenetAssist, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping communities around the world without access to genetic services and counseling.

What Would a Charitable IRA Rollover Mean for You?
|
A charitable IRA “rollover” may help you make a larger gift to Sarah Lawrence than you ever thought possible. It may help you make a gift, even if you thought you couldn't do it this year.
The IRS is again permitting IRA owners age 70 and one half years or older to make direct tax-free transfers to charities like Sarah Lawrence, before December 31, 2011. The total of these transfers may not exceed $100,000 per tax year. These transfers will qualify—in part or in whole—for the yearly required IRA minimum distributions, yet they will not be considered taxable income to the IRA owner.
This means that your IRA assets could be an important new source of charitable gifts. What a difference you could make for Sarah Lawrence! If you don't qualify, perhaps your spouse does… Please check with your professional advisers to see if a Charitable IRA Rollover Gift might be the best idea for you. Thank you!
