What is Mentoring?

Online career mentoring provides an opportunity for alumni and current seniors to connect with alumni volunteers through e-mail or phone conversations. Mentors can assist others with their career exploration, offering advice on changing their fields of employment, and guiding them through the job search process.

Mentoring also provides the opportunity for current students to connect with alumni for the purposes of job exploration, networking, and guidance.

One of the best ways to find out about a career or occupation that interests you is to get an inside perspective from someone employed in that field. However, it can be intimidating to initiate an Informational Interview with someone you've never met, so the Mentor Directory offers a database full of people who are more than willing to talk to you!

Best of all, you already have something in common: Sarah Lawrence College!

Looking to find a mentor?

To find a mentor, use the directory form below. (Please note: you must be logged in to see this form.)

Mentors are alumni who are willing to be contacted regarding their professional field. You can choose to refine your search based on location or class year. The more search terms you input, the more specific the seach and likely, the fewer results you will see.

To see more results, broaden your search to include various sub-fields. Some alumni may choose to be more specific than others when choosing a field.

When you find some relevant results, you are left just with contact information. Most likely, this person will be a stranger to you, but these are people that have chosen to share their time with you. Please be respectful of that and introduce yourself politely and ask whether they have the time to counsel you in a few key areas of your chosen field.

Please read the following page for more advice on how to contact a mentor and make the most of this opportunity.
