Fareed Zakaria Defends Liberal Arts Education
|
|
One of the greatest virtues of a liberal education, Fareed Zakaria argues in his new book, is that it bestows "a very strong sense of the basics: the ability to think, to learn, to analyze." Zakaria emphasizes the importance of a liberal education, "knowledge for its own sake, rather than to acquire skills to practice a trade or do a job" in his book In Defense of a Liberal Education. This is the CNN host's fifth book and was published by W.W. Norton & Co. At his commencement address to the Sarah Lawrence Class of 2014, Zakaria spoke powerfully about the strengths and value of a liberal education and called SLC "the quintessential liberal arts college."
