GIVE TO SLC

Fund for Sarah Lawrence - Donate today!

The FSL team hopes everyone received more treats than tricks last week. And thus, we've entered November, a month for giving thanks. On Tuesday, November 11, we thank United States Veterans for their service to our country; on Thursday, November 13, we celebrate National Philanthropy Day, a day of recognizing (and thanking) all the wonderful social service, arts, educational and other nonprofits that cater to the needs of our greater community; and on Thursday, November 27, we celebrate Thanksgiving. The FSL team would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to our alumni donors every day this month (and truly all year long). Thank you to those who have already made their 2015 donations to the College, thank you to those who have volunteered to be on 2015 reunion committees and thank you to those of you who will soon make your contribution to this year's Fund. Being thankful is something we who work at Sarah Lawrence feel every day. We are thankful for our caring and nurturing faculty, our talented and motivated students, and of course our supportive and generous alumni. By donating to The Fund for Sarah Lawrence today, you help the SLC community embrace our passion and realize our purpose. Your generosity gives everyone here a reason to be thankful.
You can mail your contribution to the 2015 Fund for Sarah Lawrence to 1 Mead Way/Bronxville, NY 10708; call us [Jody, Indra, Kin, Elizabeth & Adrianna] at 914-395-2533 or donate on line at www.sarahlawrence.edu/give. The FSL team wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

Liberal Arts in an Unequal Society Conference

America, long viewed as a beacon of equality and opportunity, has entered a new gilded age. The recent reemergence of vast and unprecedented inequalities in wealth and income, accompanied by a steep decline in social mobility, form an inescapable context for any discussion of the value of liberal arts education in the contemporary United States.

On November 14 and 15, a group of leading scholars, policy-makers and activists will convene for a major national conference to discuss how liberal arts institutions should respond to increased inequality. Learn more and register below.

Calling SLC Alumni Visiting Florence!

Johanna Zacharias '64 writes, "We—my art historian husband Herbert Kessler (his specialty: medieval) and I—are in Florence from November 2014 to May 2015. We would happily give SLC alumni visiting the city of Dante, Giotto, Masaccio, Botticelli, et al. a personal tour of some breathtaking sites that you might miss on your own--such as the incredible Spanish Chapel in Santa Maria Novella, the church of San Miniato al Monte, and the medieval holdings of the Bargello.

"We can also give guidance on Florentine restaurants, local Tuscan specialties, and lovely, modest lodgings. And we could introduce you to our neighborhood—an urbanist's dream, which includes the incomparable Mercato di Sant'Ambrogio."

Please email Johanna at jz1234@earthlink.net.
