Barbara Walters Endows Presidential Scholarships

Sarah Lawrence is pleased to announce that Barbara Walters has made a $1 million gift to establish the Barbara Walters Endowed Presidential Scholarship Fund. Every year in perpetuity, her gift will allow the College to recruit two students with a demonstrated commitment to academic excellence. Their educational experience at Sarah Lawrence will equip them with the skills necessary for making a positive and meaningful impact on the world. We are grateful to Ms. Walters, one of our most distinguished alumnae, for expressing her appreciation of Sarah Lawrence's unique pedagogy in this exceptionally generous way.

A Grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

Sarah Lawrence has been awarded a grant of $770,000 from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for an international campus initiative to include enhanced Chinese language studies, faculty exchange programs, curricular innovations, and opportunities for students returning from study abroad to work with immigrant communities. The grant-funded initiative will reinforce connections between the Sarah Lawrence home campus and its study-abroad programs. It will offer greater support to our burgeoning cohort of international students, with a pre-orientation program ("International Arrivals") and enhanced language and writing support to those who need it. The College is grateful to the Mellon Foundation for its steadfast support.

Shira Landau '13 has embarked on an innovative project that combines her love of art, interest in visual perception and passion for exploration. While backpacking through Southern Africa, Shira seeks out one riveting, breathtaking and inspiring image every day, and captures it through both photography and painting. She then examines how the lens of the camera reads the landscape in comparison to the mind, the eye and the hand. Shira intends to use the results of the journey to guide future academic research.
