The New York Times Books section features an article on What Soldiers Do: Sex and the American G.I. in World War II France by historian Mary Louise Roberts MA '80, an alumna of the Women's History graduate program.

 

Nell Minow '74, one of the leading experts in America on corporate governance, is quoted in a Fortune magazine article entitled, "Inside the Boardroom: The Party is Over."

 

Folk singer Sam Amidon '04, who has a new album out entitled Bright Sunny South, is featured on NPR's Morning Edition.

 

The Los Angeles Review of Books reviews Begging for It, the first full-length collection of poems by Alex Dimitrov MFA '09. The Review calls Dimitrov "a vital new energy in American poetry."

Wow! Fiscal Year 2013 was a record breaking year. To all of our alumni (parent, faculty and staff) donors thank you for helping us exceed our fund raising goal. The Fund for Sarah Lawrence raised 8 % over our $3,530,000 goal. Your generosity will enable us to meet the needs of the College. We thank all of you who contributed to the Fund this year. We also want to thank all of you who participated in our Love It, Show It, Share It, 48 Hour Challenge which also exceeded our goals and our expectations. We have been humbled by the generosity and participation of our alumni this year.

Thank you for a very special Reunion. Despite the weather, SLC alumni came back to participate in seminars and workshops, reminisce with old friends, and dance the night away on Saturday. It was an extraordinary weekend. Thank you!

Vera Wang '71 Delivered SLC Commencement Keynote Address

 

Sarah Lawrence College held its 85th Commencement on Friday, May 24, 2013, under a tent on the South Lawn in the shadow of Westlands. A joyful crowd gathered to celebrate the class of 2013's bachelor's and master's candidates. Fashion icon Vera Wang '71 delivered the keynote address.

Want to earn college credit this summer? Sarah Lawrence College is offering three credit courses this July!

Open to rising high school seniors, qualified juniors, and recent high school graduates as well as current college students, all courses are taught by Sarah Lawrence faculty—ranked #1 in the country by The Princeton Review.
All classes are three credits and offered with the option to stay on campus or commute. Applications can be submitted by mail, email or fax only. No online application is available for these courses.

The following slate for election to the Sarah Lawrence College Alumni Association Board of Directors was approved at Reunion 2013. The election took place at the Annual Meeting held on Saturday, June 8th, on the campus of Sarah Lawrence College. All Sarah Lawrence alumni are members of the Alumni Association and were welcome to attend the annual meeting of the Alumni Association during Reunion Weekend 2013.

News from the Sports Desk: SLC Tennis Player Named Rookie of the Week

 

The Sarah Lawrence College Department of Athletics and Physical Education capped off the academic year with its Annual Athletic Banquet at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center. Representatives of all 14 SLC varsity programs were recognized for their achievements in athletics and academics

Among those honored were SLC Athletes of the Year Brooklynn Moore '13 and Cameron Martinez '16. Moore capped off her career by leading women's volleyball to a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Tournament Championship and also rowed on the women's crew team. Martinez left his mark on the men's swimming program by breaking 11 team records this season.

Andrea C. Ferster '79 was interviewed in the Washington Lawyer, the monthly magazine of the DC Bar. In the interview, she said of Sarah Lawrence, "I had a really wonderful college experience.... Sarah Lawrence was an environment that encouraged unconventional choices." She goes on to speak of the wide variety of classes she took here at SLC.

 
   

Chris Brandt MFA '72 announced the upcoming production of THE TRAGEDY OF TRAGEDIES; OR, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF TOM THUMB THE GREAT. The play will run through June 30th, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. All 8 p.m. curtains. Tickets are $18. Medicine Show Theatre Ensemble is located at 549 W. 52nd St, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10019.

 
   

Jane Nyce MA 2007 was honored as AAUW's (American Association of University Women) Woman of the Year. Nyce is the founder and executive director of the New Canaan organization, Staying Put.

 
   
Not Retarded, a play by Rachel Greenhoe '13, was performed on campus this past year -- and is now part of Summerfest 2013 at the Manhattan Repertory Theatre in Manhattan! Not Retarded follows the graceless Gertie, her younger, questionably straight brother Bret, and their aging yet sharp Mamma as they deal with realities that force them to question how far they can push unconditional love.
